What a wonderful Valentines weekend we had here in Winston. It wasn't full of anything out of the ordinary, but it was really relaxing and fun! A few highlights:
We went and saw Valentines Day in theaters. It was quite cute. Exactly what you would expect, but we were impressed with the overall message, considering Hollywood's perception of romance.
Sunday night we headed to my favorite restaurant - Carrabas. I know it's a chain, but oh my goodness I love it! We had the best waiter and I tried white sangria (amazing!). On a more hilarious note, we waited for a little bit before we were seated and we couldn't help but people watch. There were high school couples all dressed up. Well, actually the girls were dressed up and the boys were dressed the way they always dress. Young love and awkward nerves were in the air. Behind us, there was a party of 15 or so young girls with their dads --- so cute! Can't wait to pull that one off in a decade or so! At one point, I turned around to scan the room and was shocked to see a high school couple in a booth completely making out! What? We're in Carrabas people, really? We tried to stealthly take a picture over my shoulder but couldn't pull it off. It was ridiculous, wow!
Thank you to all the couples out there who talked and ate food while they were at dinner!
On another note, it struck me this Valentines Day that it really isn't a significant Christian holiday. I mean, we have a lot of Christian friends, but I don't know anyone who takes ownership of this love-filled holiday for the Lord. Weird? Shouldn't this be THE Christian holiday -- God is love. His love is relentless and infinite. This may be my challenge for V-Day 2011.
"And I pray that you being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love surpasses knowledge --- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."
Ephesians 3:17-19
