Wii, Wii, Wii All the Way Home.

Since receiving the Nintendo Wii for Christmas, there has been a lot more action in our living room. Chris has taken to perfecting his tennis game, while I personally enjoy flip cup. Who would have known that I have a knack for throwing a ball into a cup for sport?

It's a great to play together.  We've all heard the phrase, "work hard, play harder," and as quickly as we can brush that off and keep moving through the day, I think it has great significance to life and our marriage together.  We have so much fun together when we "play" --- play the Wii, play with the dogs, play board games, play sports, just play.

play |pla|: verb 1 engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose.

Hopefully we will always play.  Play harder, so-to-speak.  Then we'll look back and smile with no regrets of the fun we have had together. Thanks Mom & Dad for the Wii.

Birthday Party at Buffalo Wild Wings

Tonight we headed to the buffalo chicken wing capital of Winston-Salem to celebrate Stuart's birthday.  It was a great time with friends!  We laughed as the ladies congregated at one end of the long table, while the guys flocked to the other.  It was just like Middle School all over again, but each of us had a spouse at the other end instead of a crush.

I love how, as adults, we still managed to throw birthday celebrations.  One of the girls mentioned doing a tea party when her birthday arrived on the calendar. Obviously, Stuart had opted for a manly wing party.  I think when November comes around, that's right make note, November 14th, that a few things should be on the calendar.  Certainly, a dress up dinner out on the town for the ladies, and maybe some sort of pinata with all the hubbies...

By the way, it was such a treat to have wings tonight!  Back in New York, we would eat them all the time, and I miss that fabulously bad-for-you taste.

Poor Ruthie.

It all started Sunday morning around 4am. Chris and I awoke to the dreaded sound of vomiting! It was like a jack-in-the-box effect, as Chris and I both jumped from the bed to investigate, which puppy was having an issue. It was sweet Ruth.

Well, she did her thing, we cleaned up and back to bed we went, but that wasn't the end! For the next twenty-four hours Ruth continued to throw-up. We lost track after 25 rounds --- poor girl. She was obviously uncomfortable and sickly. As soon as she would drink, everything would come right back up! This has to be somewhat similiar to when a baby is severely sick. All we could do was sit with her, and help her throw-up. It's heart breaking, really.

Somewhere in the middle of this we discovered that she was trying to get rid of the pieces of a rubber toy she had ingested. We don't know when she ate it or what toy it was, but nonetheless, it needed to come back out! You suddenly realize how much you love them when they are hurting and you are helpless. Chris and I just laid in bed praying that the Lord would help her feel better. Her sad face displayed exactly how she was feeling.

The second night was much of the same, but less frequent. I think Ruthie and I got a total of 1.5 hours of rest. We're all tired, but feel confident that she has turned the corner (just in time before I took her in to see the vet)! Her nose is cold again. She probably had a fever. And her appetite has returned, as well as, her waggle when she walks through the room.

Pray for complete recovery in the next few days along with a sound night's sleep for Mom!

Ryan makes the best guacamole.

I'll get straight to the point, Ryan made guacamole for the worship band before church last night, and it was THE BEST guac, I've ever had.  This is a plea to Ryan for his amazing chef skills and a tutorial on the guacamole.

Thanks for sharing!  What a way to start church, yummy!

Fireproof Review.

Chris and I have been hearing mixed reviews on the new Christian movie Fireproof. Last night we settled in to watch it, and surprisingly enjoyed it. Keep in mind that no one is going to win an Oscar for their acting skills, but the story itself was excellent. They didn't candy coat marriage or quick fix anything. Even the presence of the Gospel was positive. If you can get past the acting, there was a lot to take away from the film about life, marriage, and how God plays a part in all of it. Very cool.

Interestingly, the ideas of "love" and "respect" were mentioned a lot throughout the movie, and that is exactly what our small group is currently studying. It's so encouraging to see the same message transcend through so many avenues of our life right now.

There you have it, a movie recommendation from the Hensons.

I'm Married to the Drummer.

Last night was a lot of fun! The Fruit Smoothie Trio Band had a gig near Elon University. Chris loves the opportunity to play drums, and he loves this group of musicians! Over the last couple of months they have been working in the recording studio on an official album. It should be available in the Spring. Their sound is best described as "alternative," but since that can be quite vague, I'll elaborate with my own description: blue grass, meets classic rock, meets pop lyrics, with a bit of quirky flair, all wrapped up in unbelievable musical talent! You can quote me on that one!
Each one of the guys is incredibly talented, and to watch them play together is really amazing! All I can say is, "I'm married to the drummer!" Here are a few pictures from last night, we had a whole lot of friends there, and that made it even more special.

Here we are in between sets!

It is always a challenge to get a good shot of the drummer. I have discovered that there is always something in the way of the shot: a lead singer, a cymbal, an amp, something. I took my liberties in between songs, and asked Joel if I could cut-in, literally walking right up on the platform and grabbing this shot of my drummer! Hopefully, the guys will book more gigs for the coming months. It's exciting to see them pursue and enjoy music so much. We'll keep you posted on where and when for the next one. It's really fun, and we hope you can join us!

Ruthie girl

Today's adventures included giving Ruthie a hair cut over the course of six hours.  She's not particularly fond of getting her hair cut, but let's just say, she REALLY needed it.  Clumber spaniels shed intensly, and let's just say, Ruthie can look a bit wild at times. She's the Ruthie Girl!  So, we started with the scissors, trying to prep for the actual haircut; if that makes any sense?  Then, with Chris' help holding her we moved to the buzzer.  Yes, we buzz Ruthie's hair. It's cooler for her.  It's less shedding for the house.  It's much prettier.

For all of you who have met our sweet Ruthie, you can imagine the expression on her face as we invaded her personal bubble.  She's very tollerant, but makes her opinion crystal clear. Meanwhile, both the boys anxiously watch hoping that they too will get their hair cut --- they love it!  Below is the sweetest picture of her and Chris in Ithaca, NY over Christmas break.  They are buddies what can I say!

So, will a fresh new "do," Ruthie's waggle and sassy nub-tail can be seen by all! She looks so much better, and I think we'll have a better time keeping her clean and fresh! On tomorrow's agenda is step two: the bath!  Words cannot describe what happens to the bathroom during this process! Yay for pups!

Beach Getaway 2009 is Official

I am very excited because Chris and I booked our room for Litchfield this past weekend! Last year we were in a cozy little room on the second floor of the lodge. This year, God gave us great favor with not only cost but location.

Picture this: The Hensons (of course), poolside room, king size bed, kitchenette, first floor. YAY!! This means we are right off of the walkway to the beach, not to mention the 15 feet from the pool and those awesome chocolate drinks that I love!

We booked through the hotel this time, and it was so wonderful to experience great customer service along with God's blessing! We are spending less money this year on a better reservation! So cool. Let's start July now please! We are axiously anticipating another great trip with friends (there are 4 couples definitely coming, with a few others planning to tag along for the weekend portion of the trip). It's not too late to join us! This is last year's 4th of July photo.

It's time to blog.

It seems to be more and more popular to have a family blog. There are no kids yet; just dogs, but nonetheless, let's do it! Our hope is that the fun moments of our life will appear in pictures and text to share with our families and friends.

Exciting moment of today: The Biggest Loser is on tonight!
